A Coat for the Victorian Gentleman
If you are thinking of joining a Sherlock Holmes Society, or participating in a Murder Mystery Weekend, or maybe you are one of the Victorian Strollers – it is always fun to accurately dress the part. For a walk in the damp London fog, the Victorian gentleman would dress in a stylish overcoat. In the late 1890s, Victorian men were able to purchase their fall and winter coats from department store mail-order catalogues. A variety of styles and fabrics were available. Men could choose from single-breasted or double-breasted style, plain collar or velvet collar, and waterproof with an attached or detachable cape.
