Victorian Ball Gowns in The 1840s

on March 15, 2010 – 2:00 am

Victorian Ball GownDuring the 1840s, Victorian ball gowns featured short tight sleeves decorated with puffs, pleats or narrow lace trimming. Bodices were long and boned to form a perfect point below the waist. At times the vertical lines of the bodice were emphasized with a simple line of bows or flowers down the center. The skirts were full and bell-shaped with cartridge pleating. Samples of this style can be found here.
