A Home for the Holidays

on December 8, 2011 – 3:04 am

Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum has an exciting full month of theater performances, dance, tours, holiday decorations, Victorian Holiday Teas and other refreshments, and a Museum Shop stocked full of gift ideas for Christmas.

A host of volunteers including the Lenox Garden Club have again provided incredible holiday decorations for the Lenox mansion. The decorations will be reminiscent of the 1890s when Ventfort Hall was first the scene of grand soirees. Tom Hayes has decorated the dining room, creating a portrait of a lavish Christmas dinner party that would have been hosted by the original owners, George and Sarah Morgan.

Open Marriage: Renegade Wife of the Gilded Age:
Back by popular demand, Ventfort Hall will present in cooperation with Shakespeare & Company a revival of its world-premiere play Open Marriage: Renegade Wife of the Gilded Age written by Pittsfield playwright Juliane Hiam. Actress Anne Undeland will return in her tour-de-force performance as Elsie Clews Parsons. Performances are slated for Christmas week starting on December 26-30 at 7:30 PM. A champagne reception with the actress and playwright will take place after the December 31, 4 PM New Year’s Eve performance. And the final performance on Sunday January 1st at 4:00 PM with a champagne toast.

Glitter & Gold: Opera Jewels of the Gilded Age:
Theatre Street Productions in association with Ventfort Hall presents Glitter & Gold: Opera Jewels of the Gilded Age. Step back into the 1890’s as Theatre Street Productions presents a living history concert of selections from grand opera and seasonal favorites. The concert will feature soprano Andrea Gregori, tenor Steven Nanni, baritone John Rozzoni, mezzo-soprano Kasey Stewart and pianist Margaret Reitz in excerpts from Faust, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Victorian carols, and more. This will be Theatre Street’s third appearance at Ventfort Hall since their debut performance in 2008.

Dancin’ at the Mansion:
Take a break from all your holiday shopping and have dinner with us before Dancin’ at the Mansion on December 10. Dinner will be provided by Noble Feast Catering. Chef Alan Harris has prepared a wonderful menu!

The Reluctant Dragon Marionette Show:
Puppeteer Carl Sprague, whose annual performances at Ventfort Hall have delighted everyone with their old-world style and humor, will present a production of Kenneth Grahame’s classic fairy tale The Reluctant Dragon. After the show there will be a Holiday tea, and children will have an opportunity to meet the puppets and their backstage wizards. Performances take place on Wednesday December 28, Thursday December 29, and Friday December 30 at 3:00pm.

Les Petites Dames de Mode:
In addition, the highly popular Les Petites Dames de Mode (The Little Ladies of Fashion), 60 exquisite 29-inch mannequins dressed in period costume dating from 1855 to 1914, continues to be a captivating exhibit.
